A 19-year-old Presque Isle man was arrested Thursday for shoplifting, possession & other charges after fleeing on foot when law enforcement tried to apprehend him.

Deputy Sheriff Reid Clark responded to a convenience store in Mars Hill Thursday morning for a report of shoplifting. He observed Alexis Sinclair on surveillance video concealing multiple items in his pockets and leaving the store. Deputy Clark looked for the suspect in the area, but was unable to locate him, said the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office.

Around 5:30 pm, Deputy Clark saw Sinclair on State Street in Presque Isle - recognizing him from the security footage. When he approached Sinclair, he fled on foot. Clark pursued him and apprehended him a few blocks away, officials said.

Sinclair had meth and other illicit drugs on him when Deputy Clark arrested him.

Sinclair was arrested and transported to the Aroostook County Jail. He is charged with theft by unauthorized taking, failure to submit to arrest or detention, violation of conditions of release and unlawful possession of scheduled drugs.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the Presque Isle Police Department and the Presque Isle Fire Department.
