During February, the work of local artist Catherine O’Clair will be featured at the Wintergreen Arts Center.

An opening reception for O'Clair will be held during Presque Isle's First Friday Downtown Art Walk on February 1st, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Wintergreen Arts Center.

Hailing from Ashland, O'Clair worked for a Boston area computer company at the same  time taking night classes at Massachusetts College of Art and Design.

O’Clair opened her own art gallery overlooking the Bar Harbor region on Frenchman’s Bay while she and her family lived in the coastal village of Sorrento, Maine.

O’Clair moved back to her hometown of Ashland six years ago and now paints her northern Maine surroundings replacing coastal scenes with familiar local landscapes and wildlife.

She says she paints where she is. “Now that I am back in Ashland, I appreciate the views more than I did while growing up here."

O'Clair has an ability to stir up emotion through her artwork, as evidenced by a painting of the iconic Tilley Farm located in Garfield Plantation outside of Ashland (shown).

Dottie Hutchins, Wintergreen’s executive director, who also is an Ashland area native, says “Seeing that farm and those mountains in the background brings back so many memories."
