Woman’s Vehicle Dragged After Striking 18-Wheeler in Ashland

An 86-year-old woman was taken to the hospital after her vehicle struck the back of a loaded 18-wheel wood chip truck in Ashland on Thursday.

Ashland Police Chief Cyr Martin, Jr. says the woman was pulling out of NorState Federal Credit Union onto Station Street shortly before noon when her Toyota RAV4 struck the back of the trailer. The SUV hooked onto the back bumper of the trailer and was dragged a short distance, Martin said. The woman struck her head in the process.

Ashland police, fire and ambulance all responded to the crash. Chief Martin said the woman had stopped at the end of the credit union driveway, but the rig hadn't fully passed when she pulled out.

The woman was transported by Ashland Ambulance to The Aroostook Medical Center in Presque Isle with what were considered to be minor injuries. The SUV was totaled in the crash, Martin said.

The tractor-trailer is owned by TNT Road Company of Fort Kent and was hauling wood chips to the Boralex Ashland plant.
