A new tradition 

On Thursday afternoon Houlton High School held a Signing Day for their senior student-athletes who plan to take their talents to the collegiate level next fall. There were four student-athletes from Houlton that committed to attending programs at Maine colleges. Student-athletes and their parents were in attendance at the ceremony held at the high school.

Big day for the Shires

Signing Day is the culmination of years of hard work in the classroom and in competition. These athletes have dedicated hours to their education and their sport, and signing day is a chance to recognize those accomplishments. The four student athletes recognized at Houlton have made a major impact on several athletics programs at the school, and will now take their games to the next level.

Alyssa Nightengale 

Alyssa Nightengale announced her plans to play golf while attending Husson University in Bangor. She helped the Shires win the Class C PVC Golf championship in the fall of 21’ and will look forward to taking that success with her to the Eagles golf team.

Mia Henderson 

Mia Henderson was a standout on the basketball court for four years at Houlton high. The dynamic scorer led the Shires in most offensive categories during her time in high school. Mia will be attending Thomas College and has committed to playing for the Terriers next year.

Caleb Solomon

Caleb Solomon has had a stellar career at Houlton in multiple sports. As one of the more athletic players in Maine, Solomon led Houlton football and has been a steady presence on the basketball team. Caleb announced on Thursday that he will be attending Husson University and joining the Eagles football team.

Brock Thompson 

Brock Thompson will be staying in Aroostook County and attending the University of Maine at Presque Isle. The soon-to-be Houlton graduate is planning to play baseball for the UMPI Owls when they begin the 2022-23 year.
