The Boston Red Sox are set to open a 3 game series in Cleveland against the Indians Monday night, August 12th. Prior to the game the Red Sox made a series of roster moves

  • Infielder Michael Chavis was placed on the 10-day injured list with an AC joint sprain in his left shoulder.
  • Right-handed pitcher Ryan Weber was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket following yesterday’s game against the Angels.
  • Right-handed pitcher Travis Lakins and infielder Marco Hernández were recalled from Pawtucket.

Chavis leads American League rookies with 58 RBI and 29 multi-hit games, trailing only Pete Alonso (85) for the most RBI among major league rookies. His 18 home runs and 58 RBI are both the most by a Red Sox in a debut season since Ellis Burks had 20 home runs and 59 RBI in 1987.

Weber has made 11 appearances (three starts) over three stints with Boston this season, going 1-2 with a 4.35 ERA (15 ER/31.0 IP). He is 1-2 with a 4.33 ERA (30 ER/62.1 IP) in 13 starts for Pawtucket in 2019, posting a 1.64 ERA (6 ER/33.0 IP) in his last six beginning June 23

Lakins made his major league debut this season and has appeared in seven games over three stints with Boston, allowing six runs on 10 hits in 9.1 innings (5.79 ERA). The right-hander has made 36 appearances for Pawtucket in 2019, posting a 4.95 ERA (22 ER/40.0 IP). He most recently tossed 2.0 scoreless innings on August 9 at Toledo, allowing three hits and a walk with three strikeouts

Hernandez has hit .333 (22-for-66) with two home runs in 29 major league games over two stints with Boston this season, with all 13 of his starts coming at second base. He has also hit .285 (39-for-137) in 35 games for Pawtucket this season, adding 12 doubles and two home runs.
