UMFK Welcomes New Dean of Students
The University of Maine at Fort Kent is pleased to announce the selection of Matthew Morrin as the new Dean of Students.
Mr. Morrin comes to UMFK from the University of South Florida at St. Petersburg and will begin on November 27, 2017.
“The decades of experience in the different areas of student life have created a very well-rounded Dean of Students in Mr. Morrin,” said UMFK President John Short. “He brings a wealth of knowledge in the areas of student engagement and retention. We are very excited to welcome him to Fort Kent.”
“When I visited campus, I was impressed by the sense of community and the commitment to making UMFK an amazing place for students to learn and live,” said Mr. Morrin. “I’m excited to have the opportunity to bring my experience to share with my new team in Student Affairs, colleagues, and students to further develop and enhance the UMFK student experience.”
Mr. Morrin spent the last eleven years as the Director of Student Life & Engagement at USF. Prior to that, he spent eight years as the Director of Student Activities & Leadership at Coastal Carolina University in South Carolina. He spent four years at Carthage College in Wisconsin as the Director of Student Activities & Orientation Services.
Mr. Morrin has his B.S. in Interpersonal & Public Communication from Central Michigan University, his M.Ed. in Guidance and Counseling from Carthage College in Wisconsin and is anticipating completing his Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of South Florida next summer.
“We look forward to exploring the area and meeting our new neighbors in the community,” said Mr. Morrin. “I have also wanted to learn how to ski – which is kind of hard to do in Florida.”
