So I was a freshman in high school in 1989 and one couldn’t help get caught up in the hair band scene.  It was right around that time that hair bands were a dime a dozen and all started to sound the same to me.  Enter today’s hidden gem, Sweden’s Electric Boys.

Led by Conny Bloom, Electric Boys employed a lot of the same slick production tricks of bands at that time, but these guys were different.  They had a more blues-based, funky sound.  If you can get past their first, and most popular single – ‘All Lips and Hips,’ you’d notice a definite Beatles influence on their debut Funk-O-Metal-Carpet Ride.

Think a more rocking, bluesy Red Hot Chili Peppers.  When they released their second album, the grunge movement had set in and basically vaporized all the bands that came in the decade before them.  They broke up in 2005 only to reform in 2009 and are still touring today.

Got a hidden gem idea?  Tell me here.
