Friday night marked the start of the High School Basketball regular season in Maine. 101.9 The Rock was in Alumni Gymnasium for a Class C matchup between the Houlton Shires and Central Aroostook Panthers.

Tim Brewer, now coach of the Shires, led the Panthers to 4 Gold Balls between 2005-2011. The first of those titles came from the 05’ squad led by now Central Aroostook coach Jason Woodworth.

The Shires of Houlton took the opening game. Nick Brewer led the Houlton squad with 21 points. Cam Cleary put in 14 points with several key assists, and Jaron Gentle also topped double figures with 12 points. The Panthers were led by Brayden Bradbury with 17 points and Jacob Carvell added 10. This was the first regular season matchup between the Shires and Panthers in 50 years!

Next up for the 1-0 Shires a matchup with the (1-0) Hodgdon Hawks and the Panthers  (0-1) will move on to face the Southern Aroostook Warriors.

101.9 The Rock will be bringing you girls action from Caribou as the Vikings take on the Fort Kent Warriors. Bill Casavant and Ryan Guerrette will be on the call on 101.9 The Rock at 6:45 on Tuesday.
