The University of Maine at Presque Isle athletic fields will be the site for the annual Soccer Shoot penalty kicking contest of the Presque Isle Elks, Lodge #1954, Sunday, September 24, at 10:00 a.m..

Elks Exalted Ruler Marion Donahue, in announcing this popular, Fall event, stated, “The Elks Soccer Shoot contest is absolutely free of charge.  It is open to all area youth under 14 years of age as of August 1, 2017.  There are four age categories with divisions of each age group for boys and girls, namely, under age 8; ages 8 and 9; ages 10 and 11; and ages 12 and 13.   Winners and runners-up in each division and age group will receive a trophy.”

Winners at the Soccer Shoot of the Presque Isle Elks, Lodge #1954, are eligible to compete in the Elks District Soccer Shoot contest to be held in Bangor on October 8.

Contestants in the two younger age categories, under age 10, have three tries to kick a soccer ball through each of five different size goals, ranging from 48 inches wide down to 17 inches wide, with increasing points awarded for successful kicks through the smallest size goals.

Contestants in the two older age categories, ages 10 through 13, attempt 15 “penalty kicks” from a distance of 36 feet from the goal, with more points being awarded to kicks in the quadrants of the goal toughest to defend, namely the corners.

Grilled hot dogs, drinks, and chips will be served by the Elks to all contestants and their families free of charge.
