Crews Battle Two Fires on Tuesday in Grand Falls

Three people were displaced by two separate house fires Tuesday morning in Grand Falls, N.B.

Firefighters were first called to Park Street around 2:15 a.m., according to a report from CIMT. Police officers on patrol during the night spotted the smoke. Grand Falls Fire Chief Charlie Kavanaugh said the smoke had filled the residence by the time fire crews arrived on scene, and they made a search to determine that no one was inside.

Saint-André and Drummond Fire crews helped battle the stubborn blaze which was burning in an outside wall. The fact that the house that has been remodeled more than once made it “very difficult to fight,” Kavanaugh said.

A second fire broke out at another residence on Tobique Road shortly after 8 am. Firefighters from Drummond, Saint-André and Saint-Léonard responded to help crews in Grand Falls extinguish the blaze. A metal roof on the two-storey house made it difficult to get at the flames. There was significant damage to the house.

The residents made it out safely and no one was hurt. No word yet on the cause of the two fires.
