
Amazon May Owe You Money, Here’s What Maine Shoppers Should Know
If you are like many of us, you use Amazon in so many ways through your daily life. If you are a subscriber to Amazon Prime, then you may be eligible for a refund.
Check it out, according to WABI, there was a huge settlement recently reached by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) with Amazon.
This settlement is $2.5 billion and Amazon has already started sending out refunds to some Prime users. The FTC says Amazon used "subscription traps" that made it super easy for people to sign up for Prime but extremely confusing to cancel the subscription.
Amazon admitted no wrong doing, but agreed to the pay out, as per NBC Chicago YouTube.
This is something we have all been through with other subscriptions and this time, there seems to be a pay out for the hassle.
Now, there are millions of subscribers all over the states, including here in Maine that may very well get some money back.
As per WABI, on November12th, Amazon started shipping out refunds. Eligible customers can get up to $51.00, depending on what exactly they paid for with their Prime subscription.
The auto payments will go through December 24th. How will they come? They are sending them out via PayPal, Venmo, or by check.
Do you need to do anything?
Not right at the moment, no. According to the article, if you do quality for the first found of payments, Amazon will let you know by sending the refund automatically. If you didn't receive one, the FTC says a claims process will also open in 2026 for the people who didn't get one but may still be eligible.
Do I Qualify for An Amazon Refund?
As per the article, if you signed up for Amazon Prime between June 2019 and June 2025 and were enrolled in one of the problematic sign-ups that the FTC flagged, then you are eligible.

Another thing to keep in mind is to be aware and cautious of scammers. If the FTC says they will not contact you asking for money, they mean it. Just be alert.
If you are a Mainer that uses Amazon Prime and you meet all the criteria, you could see a refund coming your way! It's not much, but a bit of consumer relief, is better than none at all!
