St. Patrick’s Day Celebrated with Sneakers & Shamrocks 4K
Northern Light AR Gould Hospital and Northern Maine Community College teamed up this past weekend for a healthy St. Patrick's Day.
The color of the day was, of course, GREEN, as participants got into the spirit of things. Northern Light's Jamie Guerrette, community health specialist, picking contest winners proved to be challenging. “There were so many wonderful outfits, so it was hard to pick the best dressed.”
Winning the title for best dressed was a group effort. The award went to Erika Vaughn, Ashlee Albert, Kim Kinney, Joy Cropley, and Jannelle Brooks, all from Salon 207 in Presque Isle.
Finishing in the front of the pack in the Sneakers & Shamrocks 4K was Katie Malone with a time of 16:56.4, followed by Jaylee Fox at 17:17.4. The rest of the top five included Tom Marrow, Stacy Shaw, and Glen Mahan.
Besides the St. Patrick's Day connection, a healthy lifestyle and physical activity was an important goal for the day for both organizations. A free day pass for the NMCC Smith Wellness Center and festive green shoe laces were given to all participants to help promote the goal of the day.
Guerrette says it looks like the event will be repeated next year. “We will all turn green and share in the fun again next year on the Sunday before St. Patrick’s Day, March 15, 2020.”
