Driver Seriously Injured in Woodland Collision

One man was seriously injured Monday morning when his car slammed into a heavy-duty pickup parked along a road in Woodland.

According to the Aroostook County Sheriff's Office, the collision occurred on Woodland Center Road around 8:15 a.m. Sheriff's deputies, Caribou Police and Caribou Fire & EMS all responded. They found the driver of a Ford Focus injured, bleeding and trapped in his vehicle. Caribou Fire extricated the injured driver and he was transported to Cary Medical Center to be treated for serious injuries.

According to the Sheriff's Office, the driver of the Ford Focus claimed to have been temporarily blinded by the sun’s glare just prior to striking the rear of the pick-up truck, which was parked alongside the shoulder of the road. This area was just west of Brown Road in Woodland.

Police say the driver of the pickup complained of pain but refused on scene treatment. He was arrested on an active warrant and was able to post bail.

The Maine DOT was performing maintenance of the road in the area, but the sheriff's office said this was not believed to be a factor of the crash.
