McKenna says the reason for his stepping down was the inability to work with Town Manager Butch Asselin.

McKenna hand delivered his resignation to Asselin Thursday morning with an effective date of Friday, August 5.

According to the Bangor Daily News, Asselin confirmed receiving the resignation, but had no comment, stating it was a "personnel matter."

Chief McKenna has been the head of the Houlton Police Department for a little over 2-and-a-half years, having been hired in December of 2013.

According to Town Manager Asselin, Capt. Dan Pelletier will serve as interim police chief while a replacement for McKenna is sought. Pelletier has been with the force for over 40 years.
