University of Maine at Fort Kent Professor of Music and Education, Dr. Scott Brickman, recently had his Concerto-Rhapsody for ‘cello and string orchestra premiered in L’viv, Ukraine, at the L’viv Philharmonic Society, on February 26.

Cellist Denys Lytvinenko was the soloist and Ferdinando Nazzaro conducted the strings of the Lemberg Sinfonietta.

 

Brickman’s 11-min work, which was begun for Lytvinenko during the fall of 2017 and finished early in January, was the second work of Brickman’s Lytvinenko has performed, having participated in the premiere of his Piano Trio in 2016. Additionally, this is the second concerto that the Lemberg Sinfonietta has performed of Brickman’s, with his Concertino for Violin and Orchestra being played by them in November of 2016.

“I’m really fortunate to have built such a supportive relationship with these fantastic musicians,” said Dr. Brickman. “They are fearless with their ambitious advocacy of new music.”

In November of 2017, Brickman’s Piano Sonata no. 1 was featured the CD American Piano Series, Vol. 3, , recorded by British pianist Martin Jones on the PnOVA label.

Dr. Brickman holds music degrees from the University of Wisconsin and Brandeis University. Dr. Brickman has taught at UMFK since the fall of 1997. He teaches courses in Music, First Year Experience, and Education.
