Three Arrested for Impaired Driving by RCMP Near Woodstock

The West District RCMP arrested three impaired drivers over the weekend near Woodstock, N.B.

On June 16 at approximately 9:45 p.m., a 23-year-old man from Windsor, N.B., was arrested for impaired driving following a checkstop in Coldsteam, N.B. Jacob Alexander Roy was charged with impaired driving and breaching an undertaking. He was remanded into custody and appeared in Woodstock Provincial Court on June 18, where he entered a guilty plea on both charges. Roy received a $1300 fine and is prohibited from driving for one year for the impaired driving charge. He will be appearing in Woodstock Provincial Court on October 24 to be sentenced for breaching an undertaking.

On June 17 at approximately 1:30 a.m., a 26-year-old woman from Florenceville-Bristol, N.B., was arrested for impaired driving following a traffic stop in Florenceville-Bristol. The woman was released on a promise to appear in court at a later date.

On June 17 at approximately 7:30 p.m., a 23-year-old man from Lower Woodstock, N.B., was arrested for impaired driving following a single vehicle crash in Richmond Corner, N.B. No one was injured. The man was released on a promise to appear in court at a later date.

"Due to new legislation enacted last year, all three individuals received an immediate loss of their driver's licence for 90 days and a mandatory vehicle impoundment of 30 days," says Cst. Mark Walsh with the Woodstock RCMP. "Under that same legislation, if an individual has been previously convicted for exceeding the alcohol limit or refusal of a breath demand in the past 10 years, a 60 day mandatory vehicle impoundment is imposed. Upon conviction, a minimum mandatory prohibition of driving for one year is imposed by the courts."

Anyone that has information about a suspected impaired driver is asked to call 911 immediately as it is considered an emergency call.
