Red Sox Make Roster Moves Sunday Afternoon August 4

The Boston Red Sox announced a series of roster moves on Sunday afternoon, hoping to snap their 7 game losing streak, and before the final game of the series against the Yankees.

•   Left-handed pitcher David Price was reinstated from the paternity leave list.
• Right-handed pitcher Ryan Weber was recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket.
•  Right-handed pitchers Colten Brewer and Josh Smith and infielder Marco Hernández were optioned to Pawtucket following last night’s game

Price was placed on the paternity leave list prior to Friday’s series opener against the Yankees. The left-hander is 7-4 with a 3.86 ERA (44 ER/102.2 IP) in 20 starts for Boston this season

Weber has appeared in eight games (three starts) with Boston this season, going 1-1 with a 5.25 ERA (14 ER/24.0 IP). The right-hander has also made 13 starts with Pawtucket, and in his last six he has posted a 1.64 ERA (6 ER/33.0 IP). He most recently pitched Wednesday at Syracuse and threw six shutout innings, allowing five hits with seven strikeouts.

Brewer made the Red Sox’ Opening Day roster and has appeared in 48 games for Boston this season, posting a 4.31 ERA (23 ER/48.0 IP) with 44 strikeouts. In his last 27 outings (beginning June 6), the right-hander has a 2.88 ERA (8 ER/25.0 IP) with 21 scoreless appearances in that time.

Smith has made 11 appearances (two starts) over five major league stints with Boston this season, going 0-2 with one save and a 4.84 ERA (12 ER/22.1 IP). In the first game of yesterday’s doubleheader, the right-hander allowed only one run in four innings of relief.

Hernández,  has hit .333 (22-for-66) with two home runs in 29 major league games this season, with all 13 of his starts coming at second base. He has also hit .333 (37-for-111) in 29 games for Pawtucket this season, adding 10 doubles and two home runs.
