The Boston Red Sox were doubled up by the New York Yankees on Sunday night, losing to the Yankees 10-5, at Fenway Park. After the game, the Red Sox fired president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski.

Dobrowksi joined the Red Sox on August 18, 2015,and was the architect behind the Red Sox resurgence. The Red Sox had won 3 straight AL East titles, including the World Series in 2018, but 2019 had been a disappointment. A formal announcement is expected on Monday, September 9th.

In Sunday night's game, Rick Porcello allowed 6 runs on 7 hits in 4 innings including 2 homers. He struck out 1 and didn't walk a batter. He's now 12-12 on the season.

The Red Sox had 2 homers, with Jackie Bradley Jr. hitting his 18th in the 3rd inning and Mookie Betts his 27th in the 8th inning. Both of them were solo shots.

Mitch Moreland hit his 14th double of the season, and Sandy Leon his 3rd.

Betts, Brock Holt and Sandy Leon each had 2 hits.

The Red Sox are now 8 games out of the 2nd wild card spot, and their tragic number for elimination from the playoffs is 12
