Welcome to Maine, folks. You are going to have a great time here... I think.

This state is filled with beautiful beaches, majestic mountains, four seasons of outdoor adventure, incredible food. However, this all apparently means nothing, at least according to a new report based on fun.

WalletHub.com, a financial website, recently published its annual report on the most fun states—and unbelievably, Maine was nowhere near the top of the list. What in the wide world of sports is that about?

How is it Possible That Maine is One of the Most Boring States?

In fact, Maine was in the bottom 10, finishing with a ranking of 41. That means WalletHub is suggesting Maine is one of the most boring states in America. This is unheard of.

WalletHub gave Maine a score of 28.87 out of a possible 100. That’s wretched.

The scoring system is based on two major categories: Entertainment & Recreation and Nightlife. These were further broken down into 26 subcategories to provide as much detail as possible. You can read more about the methodology here.

Maine’s ranking for Entertainment & Recreation was 37th. That is straight-up disrespect. There’s zero chance that 36 other states have better entertainment and recreation than Maine. Let’s look at some of the states ranked higher: Idaho? South Dakota? Michigan? Tennessee? Ohio? Missouri?

I mean—what are we doing here, people? I could make an argument for Maine over all of these, and many others.

Maine should easily be Top 15 in this category. Skiing, swimming, hiking, camping, fishing, boating, beaches, incredible food, coastal travel, college and minor league sports, classic rock radio stations, island hopping... Name 10 states that have more than that. You can’t.

Now, as for nightlife, ranked 45th, that’s fair and accurate. Not much happens around here once the sun goes down. But hey, that’s how we like it. Nothing good happens after 11p. Everyone knows this.

What are the Most Fun States in New England?

It was a rough look for New England in general. Here’s where every New England state finished in the rankings:

29. Massachusetts
43. New Hampshire
44. Connecticut
45. Rhode Island

48. Vermont

As for the most fun state, that went to California, followed by Florida, Illinois, Nevada,  and New York.
