Emera Maine Signs on as Sponsor of Annual Chamber Dinner

Emera Maine has once again committed to sponsor the Central Aroostook Chamber of Commerce's Annual Awards Dinner.

This event recognizes individuals and businesses from central Aroostook County who have made significant contributions to the betterment of the area.

The Annual Awards Dinner will be held at Presque Isle Inn & Convention Center, Thursday, January 25, 2018. Awards will be given to two businesses, one for economic development and the other for community support. The winners of these two awards were chosen by the Central Aroostook Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors at their December meeting.

Smiths Farm will be recognized for their implementation of a solar farm to supply electricity for their storage facility in Westfield as well as the economic impact on the area of the seasonal employees they require to harvest their crops. Known for their broccoli crop, Smith’s Farm, Inc also produces cauliflower, corn, potatoes, lettuce, cabbage, bok choy and grains. Based in Presque Isle, Smith’s Farm, Inc has operations in Maine, Florida and California. They area recognized around the world as broccoli specialists and are called on to examine crops, practices and handling around the world.

Big Cheese Pizza will be recognized for their community contributions. Big Cheese owners in central Aroostook County, Rob & Martha Frank are always willing to assist where possible. They open their stores to classes for fundraising events, reduce prices and make donations without being asked when they recognize the value of an event or organization.

In addition to these two awards, the Lifetime Recognition Award, Citizen of the Year, President’s and Director of the Year will also be presented. The winners of these awards will be announced at the beginning of January.

The Central Aroostook Chamber of Commerce will hold a short business meeting between 5:30 and 6:00pm, prior to the dinner to allow membership the opportunity to discuss proposed changes to the wording of the by-laws.
