A building belonging to Northern Light A.R. Gould (formerly TAMC) is slated for demolition this week.

The Academy House sits in front of the hospital on Academy Street in Presque Isle and has been owned by the facility for 35 years. Prior to Northern Light A.R. Gould owning it, the building was home to the practice of Dr. Raymond Giberson, a surgeon. The house and the land were sold to the hospital  back in 1983.Academy

The building hasn't been used much in the past couple of years. Prior to that, Academy House had been used as a conference and meeting area, apartment space for several employees and even a gym.

Greg LaFrancois, president of Northern Light AR Gould Hospital, in a press release stated, "After careful evaluation, we determined that we will be better served to demolish the building and clear the trees around the property so that we can develop a parking lot in the location in the spring." He added parking at the hospital is at a premium and this was the only space that could be expandable.

Demolition of the structure is expected to begin on Monday, November 19, weather permitting.
