UMPI Greenhouse is Named

The University of Maine at Presque Isle's greenhouse, which is currently being built, has now got a name.

The University of Maine System Board of Trustees recently signed off on the state-of-the-art, four-season facility being named the Zillman Family Greenhouse. The UMaine Board of Trustees gave the approval at its meeting in Augusta.

Dr. Don Zillman, a former President of UMPI from 2006-2012, and his wife Linda donated the first gift to the greenhouse. Debbie Roark, Executive Director for University Advancement and External Affairs said the Zillmans have been staunch supporters of this project since the beginning. “Not only were they the first donors to the project, they were excited about the potential to support the greenhouse by writing letters of support for grant applications and speaking with other potential donors encouraging their support for the project.”

The greenhouse project will be located in a spot adjacent to Gentile Hall and close to the campus’s year-round composting site.  The project will cost $935,000 and will be 2,400-square-feet. Groundbreaking began in late April and ground work is now underway.
