Moose Hunt Back On in North & Eastern Maine

Maine's abbreviated 2016 moose hunt is starting back up in the northern and eastern parts of the state.

The moose hunt is divided into four stretches in different parts of the state. The second stretch starts on Monday and is located mostly in the rural northern and far eastern parts of the state.

The session ends on Oct. 15 and is followed by more opportunities in October and November.

The state allotted 675 fewer permits this year than in 2015. State biologists are trying to meet the public's desire to view more moose in the woods.

There were nearly 49,000 entries in this year's lottery for the 2,140 permits.
