A 30-year-old man was arrested after stealing a pickup truck, driving the wrong way on I-95 and leading police on a high speed chase through several towns in Maine.

Chase Started After Police Got a Tip About a Stolen Pickup Truck

Police received a tip that a stolen truck was in Fairfield on Mill Street around 8:20 am Tuesday.

Man Fled from Police and Sped Away

Christopher Groves from Benton was driving the pickup and refused to stop for police. He sped away and fled the scene.

Man Drove Wrong Way on I-95 During Chase

Groves drove to Waterville and got on I-95. He went across the median and was driving the wrong way on the interstate. He then turned around and was able to get away from officers.

Stolen Truck Located and Driver had Fled

Police located the truck a short time later in Clinton.

Man Went into a Home and Ran Out the Back

Witnesses said Groves went into a residence on Canaan Road and ran out the back door.

Suspect Taken into Custody on Foot

Officers apprehended him soon after and took him into custody.

Multiple Charges Including Eluding an Officer and Driving to Endanger

Groves was charged with Eluding an Officer, Aggravated Criminal Mischief, Reckless Conduct with a Dangerous Weapon, Failing to Stop for a Police Officer, Driving to Endanger, Criminal Speed and Violating Conditions of Release.

Taken to County Jail and Charged

He was transported to the Somerset County Jail and booked.
