Of course, convenience comes at a cost—you’re likely to pay a bit more than you would at a big store. But for Mainers, that extra cost is worth the ease and speed of grabbing what they need on the go.

But how does anyone even determine a state's favorite gas station? Did someone go door-to-door asking?

Free Bets conducted a survey in October 2024, asking 2,500 Americans about their favorite gas station convenience store chains. They focused only on chains with locations in each respondent's state to ensure relevance. Additionally, the survey included only those chains that serve as both gas stations and convenience stores, ensuring consistency in the type of businesses being rated. This approach helped Free Bets highlight the top choices in gas station convenience culture across the U.S.

With those questions in mind, according to a recent study, which gas station in Maine is considered our favorite?

According to Free Bets and their report ‘The Great American Pit Stop: The Most Popular Gas Stations Across the U.S. and the Rise of Convenience Store Culture,’ the most popular gas station in Maine is Cumberland Farms. And we’re not alone—Cumberland Farms is also the favorite in seven other states. Here’s what Free Bets had to say about ‘Cumbies’:

So there you have it: Cumberland Farms is Maine’s favorite gas station, with 43 locations in the state as of November 2024.
