The other day, while channel surfing and enjoying the air conditioning during our recent heat wave, I landed on the classic Tom Hanks movie Forrest Gump. It's one of those films where you can tune in at almost any point and somehow end up watching the rest of it.

As Forrest wrapped up his famous cross-country run, I had completely forgotten that he finishes his journey by running down the walkway to Marshall Point Lighthouse in Port Clyde, Maine. It's one of the movie's most memorable scenes, and it got me wondering if fans have been recreating the moment.

That iconic scene was filmed in October 1993, and ever since, visitors from around the world have made the trip to Marshall Point Lighthouse to run the same walkway and recreate a little piece of movie history.

Marshall Point Light Station sits at the entrance to Port Clyde Harbor and has been guiding mariners since 1832. Even if you're not a Forrest Gump fan, it's a beautiful spot that's well worth a visit. And if you are a fan, don't miss the chance to channel your inner Forrest with a jog down the famous walkway.

The museum and gift shop are open through Columbus Day. Hours are:

Sunday and Monday: Noon to 4:00 p.m.
Tuesday through Saturday: 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
