Cancer is a killer. There are those we know who have survived and those who haven't. However, one Washburn student is now cancer-free and heading back to school.

Reed Plummer was welcomed back with open arms and black t-shirts from his classmates as he returned to school after battling cancer.

Reed spent much of his 8th-grade year battling his second cancerous brain tumor.

Welcoming back injured and sick students is not uncommon for those attending Washburn Elementary and this time it was Reed's turn to receive a warm welcome from students and staff at the school.

Many are thankful that there are supportive communities, such as Washburn, who help support their citizens during a time of desperate need.
