St. Apollonia Pediatric Dentistry recently asked students from Wintergreen Arts Center’s after-school arts program to design this year’s holiday ornament for the Festival of Trees.

Eighteen students created original artwork for the project and two pieces were chosen to adorn the ornament.

All student artwork will be on display during the Festival of Trees to be held during the first weekend of December at the Northern Maine Community College Gymnasium.

Artwork created by Wintergreen students Alia Skaleski of Presque Isle and Katelyn Michaud of Caribou were selected by members of St. Apollonia’s staff, board, and the community to be incorporated into the design of this year’s ornament.

“The artwork is amazing,” said Dr. Norma Desjardins, St. Apollonia’s executive director.  “The Wintergreen students did a great job helping to make this year’s Festival of Trees ornament something truly special.”

Dr. Erik Johnson, pediatric dentist for St. Apollonia, was a member of the panel that judged the artwork.  “I love the creative ideas these students came up with,” he said.  “When the Festival of Trees is over, we plan to display all of this artwork at the dental office for our patients to enjoy.”

This year marks their fourth annual Festival of Trees event, which has grown into a major fundraiser for the clinic.

Wintergreen extends sincere thanks to the creative staff at Print Works in Presque Isle for digitally scanning the winning artwork in preparation for it to be used in creating this year’s holiday ornament for the Festival of Trees.
