Heads up to everyone who enjoys spreading the holiday spirit and mail out gifts to out of state family members. Sending a treasure to Grandma this year may cost you a little extra.
Why? According to News Center Maine, the U.S. Postal Service is temporarily increasing prices to ship for the 2025 holiday season. This has already begun, October 5th and will run through January 18th, 2025.

Holiday Shipping Costs Are Going Up at USPS

This price hike will affect Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail, USPS Ground Advantage, and Parcel Select. Pretty much all of the go to services for most of us mailing out our holiday cheer.
The exact costs will vary by how much the package weighs and where it is going. What you will be able to expect is about a few extra dollars added per shipment.
Example: an average flat rate box will most likely cost 50 to 75 cents more during the holiday mailing rush.
According to USPS, this is to help the company cover extra costs during the holiday rush. Almost like a stress fee for our beloved postal elves. They do work so extremely hard, especially during the gift giving months.
So if you are also one of the many moms or dads who absolutely love to spread cheer through packages, like my mom's famous Greek cookies, consider mailing them a bit early this year to beat the price hike.
