On Wednesday afternoon in Bangor the Class B North girls semi-finals took place and the second game of the session featured the #4 Presque Isle Wildcats taking on #1 Old Town Coyotes.
On Wednesday the Big East Maine Basketball Conference has been releasing their honors for the past season, and two Presque Isle athletes have received a notable honor, and 12 Aroostook County Athletes in total were recognized as top performers in the conference.
Pandemonium ensued as the Pioneers rushed to the floor to celebrate with one another and many of the Patriots were caught in a state of shock. An agonizing defeat was just handed to the Patriots and it's understandable if the teenage athletes would hang their heads, but they did not.
The 4/5 matchup in Class D North boys was one that many had circled when the heal points were finalized last week. Wisdom came in as the #4 seed fresh off an 11-5 regular season and were taking on the #5 Bangor Christian Patriots that finished with a 10-6 record.
The Southern Aroostook Warriors have been the top team in Class D North girls for the last few years, and this year they completed a perfect 18-0 regular season looking to defend their regional title.
The second game of the day in Bangor on Monday featured a pair of familiar foes with the #2 Southern Aroostook Warriors taking on the #7 Katahdin Cougars in Class D North boys
