Orono Cinema Adds Another ‘Stephen King’ Themed Theater Just In Time To Show Newest Movie Based On His Work
'The Long Walk', the latest movie adaptation of a Stephen King novel (which he wrote under his pseudonym Richard Bachman in the late 1970s), is set to debut in theaters across the country on Friday, September 12th.
One local cinema in Orono is celebrating not only the release of the movie, but they're also debuting their new "Stephen King" themed theater!
Black Bear Cinemas co-owner Zach Hussey says the new theater, Theatre 1408 (named after the short story King published in 1999), is just one of a handful of fun themed theaters within the building on Stillwater Avenue.

"We have 4 themed theaters so far. Space Theater, Comic Theater, magic-themed theater in the works, and Theater 1408, which obviously is in honor of Stephen King!"

"Charles (my business partner) and I always knew we wanted to dedicate a theater entrance to Stephen King. We both grew up in the old town area and are big Stephen King Fans naturally. We are hoping that if Stephen King is ever in the area again, trying to see a movie, he might come see one in Theater 1408!"
"We had a University of Maine student work on this on and off for a year. He did an awesome job. He did want the work to be anonymous, though!"
"We will also be doing a Stephen King series in October… to be announced soon."
Those with small kids who also like to go to the movies will be happy to know that there was great thought put into the location of this particular theater, so that it's not a deterrent for younger kids who might not be ready to appreciate King's characters up close and personal.
"The location is up the ramp and then all the way down to the right. We did this by design; it is at the end of a hallway, so kids and families don’t have to walk by it to go to the kids' movies. We also don’t put kids' movies in the two theaters at the end of the hall; it is where we place our horror films and films PG-13 and up."

Black Bear also made a change to their beverage menu last year to offer adult spirits to those of age on the weekends.
"We still serve alcohol every Friday and Saturday! Domestic beer, craft beer, Cider, and seltzers!"

Hussey says they will also be doing some fun decorating for the upcoming Halloween holiday, expanding on what they did last year.
"We will definitely be decorating the Theater for Halloween! Our decorations grow every year, and the 12-foot Skeleton will be back!... We will also be part of the Trunk or Treat that the Trampoline park organizes."
