Maine Operation Game Thief is offering a $3,000 reward for information leading to arrest and conviction after the killing of a Canada lynx in Perham.

Body of Canada Lynx Found and Reward Offered for Information

The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife said the lynx’s body was found Wednesday on Mouse Island Road.

Lynx Shot and Killed and Did Not Die from Natural Causes

“An investigation determined the lynx did not die of natural causes. Evidence collected at the scene and during the investigation indicates the animal was shot and killed within approximately 24 hours of its discovery,” according to Game Wardens.

Canada Lynx is a Protected Species

Authorities said the Canada lynx is a federally protected species and it’s a federal offense to kill, harass, or trap the animal.

Animal Shot and Left to Waist

“The shooting of this animal was unnecessary, conducted without regard for its protected status, and left to waste,’ said the Maine Warden Service.
