New Quilt Supply Store Coming to Caribou
April Showers are bringing bright May colors to downtown Caribou!
Aroostook Stitches ‘Your Quilting Supply Store’ will hold its Grand Opening on Saturday, May 20th beginning at 10am with a ribbon cutting ceremony with the Central Aroostook Chamber of Commerce. Throughout the day, there will be free drawings, light refreshments courtesy of Anderson’s Store in Stockholm, gifts to the first 100 customers making a purchase, specials including 25% off all Batiks yardage, and other hourly specials.
Owner Susan Maley, who lives in Stockholm, is as colorful as the fabric and notions she carries in this cozy quilt supply shop located at 42 Sweden St, Caribou. The store is now open Mondays through Saturdays 10am-6pm and Sundays 11am-4pm. “We chose Caribou because of its centralized location. We want to make sure everyone has access to quilting supplies, including our Canadian neighbors.”
The store is stocked with hundreds of items including 100% cotton fabric and flannel in yardage and precuts from Benartex, Robert Kaufman, Timeless Treasures, and Maywood Studios. Bosal fusible batting, patterns, and a variety of high quality notions not available elsewhere including Olfa rotary cutters, Creative Grids rulers, Olfa cutting mats, Gingher scissors, and whole lines of Schmetz sewing needles and Auri Fil threads.
There will be quilting classes to help folks learn to quilt, hone their skills, or come together as they work on their quilting projects. The Pine Tree Quilting Guild members intend to use the space for gatherings.
Susan worked with local business resources to bring her dream to fruition. She attended a class offered by New Ventures Maine. Venturing Forth: Business Planning for Entrepreneurs, a 12-week course in business planning. She met with Josh Nadeau, local SBDC Business Advisor, who helped put realistic estimates together for the cashflow projections and guided Susan into the lending process, connecting her to Julie Corey, Business Loan Officer at NMDC, who pulled the best financial partners in to help secure financing.
