While we love to snack here in Maine, a new report shows that we Mainers love to snack on this treat more than anything else.

Here in Maine, we know a thing or two about good food—loving it, cooking it, and talking about it might just be one of our biggest personality traits. So when it comes to snacking, what’s at the very top of the list for Maine’s favorite treat?

So, with that in mind, how do we know what the most popular snack or snack food in the Pine Tree State is? Was this something people voted on?

A 2024 study by data firm HubScore analyzed geotagged online reviews, search trends, and consumer behavior data to uncover the most popular snack in each U.S. state. Cheapism then used that data to highlight each state’s top treat in their report, ‘The Most Popular Snacks in Every State.’

Well, with all that said—what is the most popular snack in Maine, according to the recent report from Cheapism?

According to Cheapism and their report highlighting ‘The Most Popular Snacks in Every State,’ the most popular snack in Maine is Rice Krispies Treats. Along with 17 other states, here’s what Cheapism had to say about Maine’s selection:

If you grew up with sticky fingers and cereal-based desserts at bake sales, this tracks. Rice Krispies Treats are the most beloved snack in the country, taking the top spot in 18 states.

Rice Krispies Treats were first mass-produced by Kellogg’s in 1995, though the gooey, homemade version had already been a beloved snack.

Cheapism continues by noting that people don’t eat them because they’re hungry, but because they’re sad, bored, or six—and here in New England, where Marshmallow Fluff is a staple and Mainers love a good Fluffernutter, we’re certainly no strangers to marshmallow-based comfort.
