A 40-year-old man was arrested Monday morning and charged with Murder after a woman was stabbed at a group home in Portland and died.

Armando Javier Negrete was taken into custody around 10:04 am at Shalom House on Woodford Street.

Suspect Charged with Stabbing Female Employee at Group Home

He was charged with stabbing a 40-year-old woman, Marlene McNeill from Gorham, who worked at the group home.

Woman Taken to the Hospital with Serious Injuries and Died

She was seriously injured and taken to Maine Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

Man Left the Building Following the Stabbing

The Portland Police Department said Negrete left the building after the assault.

Suspect Apprehended on the Property and Arrested

He was later located on the property and arrested. He was taken to the Cumberland County Jail and booked.

Cause of Death to be Determined by Medical Examiner

McNeill’s body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine the cause of death.
