According to a recent report, this popular drink from Maine is being called the one that best represents our state as a whole.

It’s no secret—Mainers love to drink. From liquor to local favorites like Allen’s Coffee Brandy and Fireball, we’ve got our go-to beverages, but according to this recent report, Maine’s most iconic drink is actually a beer—and not just any beer.

So, with that in mind, how does one decide what makes a particular alcoholic beverage more special—or, as we’re saying here, more iconic—than any other?

Food & Wine’s recent report, ‘Raise a Glass to America With a Drink From All 50 States,’ highlights a signature beverage from each state, showcasing the unique flavors, traditions, and innovations found across the country. Their selections include everything from craft beer and heritage spirits to non-alcoholic options and cannabis-infused drinks, offering a flavorful snapshot of what makes each state’s drink culture distinct.

LOOK: Best Beers From Every State

To find the best beer in each state and Washington D.C., Stacker analyzed January 2020 data from BeerAdvocate, a website that gathers user scores for beer in real-time. BeerAdvocate makes its determinations by compiling consumer ratings for all 50 states and Washington D.C. and applying a weighted rank to each. The weighted rank pulls the beer toward the list's average based on the number of ratings it has and aims to allow lesser-known beers to increase in rank. Only beers with at least 10 rankings to be considered; we took it a step further to only include beers with at least 100 user rankings in our gallery. Keep reading to find out what the best beer is in each of the 50 states and Washington D.C.
