GameStop Is Closing Stores Across the US, Including 1 in Topsham, Maine
It looks like there will be one less GameStop in Maine in 2026.
A Facebook post revealed that the Topsham location would be closing.
This is not specific to this one spot as GameStop plans to close a "significant number" of stores across the U.S., according to Business Insider. The news outlet reported that this is on top of the 590 GameStop stores that closed in "fiscal 2024."
When Is GameStop in Topsham, Maine, Closing for Good?
In the social media post announcing the closure of the Topsham GameStop posted on Sunday, January 4, a specific final date wasn't immediately shared, but there was a response in the comments noting "[January] 14th ish."
However, on Monday, an update was provided to the Facebook post saying that Monday, January 5, is the last day.
It looks like things closed almost as soon as the news was shared, so if you were hoping to go one last time, you're out of luck.
Where Are the GameStop Stores in Maine?
With Topsham closing, that will leave only a handful of GameStop stores left, including Scarborough, Auburn, Augusta, Waterville and Bangor.
As of now, those stores aren't currently planned to close.
Newsweek reported that the video game retailer has a little over 2,000 stores in the United States as of February 2025.
There is an unofficial list of stores closing in January here.

It's unfortunate that another place closed, and seeing the comments on the Facebook post expressing disappointment or reminiscing over visiting that particular GameStop makes it clear it was more than just a video game retailer.
It's also another indicator of how shopping habits have shifted over the years, with digital downloads and online retailers being an easier way to purchase games.
And yet, there's just something about browsing the shelves for new and old games and getting that human interaction with staff that can't be replaced.
Thankfully, you've still got a few more GameStop locations you can check out in Maine if you're looking for that in-store experience.
