Houlton Could Potentially Be The Site Of A New Hemp Project In The County
There has been a lot of talk, for years now, about the properties in plants like Hemp and Marijuana and how to go about processing them for the health benefits they provide.
Peter Murmouras and his son have targeted Houlton as a site for them to begin Hemp production in Aroostook County.
The duo, associated with the Maine Commercial Growers Association, said they have spoken with a potato farmer who has a field where they can begin the project.
Murmouras said they have been doing studies on Hemp and assured those who attended the Houlton Town Council that it doesn't get you high, but is the cousin of marijuana.
They chose Houlton because the growing zone is one of the hardiest in the County. They're hoping the area will become a good in-between crop for potato growers in Aroostook County.
