In a statement, police said Akim Frank was formally charged with 'non-capital' murder in the death of 36-year-old Linnea Veinotte, according to the Toronto Star.

Veinotte went missing on Sunday, December 6 after she left her home to go running with the family dog in what police described as an affluent neighborhood of St. George's, Grenada's capital city.

The dog was found lying by the side of the road.  An intensive island-wide search was conducted throughout the week for the missing woman.

Frank turned himself in to police early Friday and Veinotte's body was found later that day.

Veinotte was originally from New Denmark N.B., near Grand Falls. She and her husband had recently moved with their two young children to Grenada from Nova Scotia.
