Free CNA Training Program Offered
Northern Light AR Gould Hospital will once again team up with SAD #42 Adult Education to offer a training program for Certified Nurse Assistants (CNAs).
Two informational sessions to learn about the program, as well as CNA duties and hospital benefits will be held in the conference center on the second floor of the East Annex on the hospital’s campus at 140 Academy Street in Presque Isle on Wednesday, July 31, from 5:00-6:00 pm and on Friday, August 2, from 7:30-8:30 am.
As Daryl Boucher, vice president of nursing explains, a CNA provides hands-on healthcare to patients, helping them with dressing, bathing and basic life activities, all while working the direction of a nurse. “They play a vital role in patient care both at the hospital and at our long-term and skilled care facility in Mars Hill.”
The class is offered for free to those who commit a year of full time employment or two years part-time at AR Gould. Participants are hired as temporary employees, being paid for 36 hours a week while they take the 8-week training course.
Odette LaPointe, RN, lead instructor for the program, says while the program can be physically demanding at times, it also can be a very rewarding career, adding it's also a great way to get started down the path of becoming a nurse or other healthcare professional.
To learn more about this opportunity, please plan to attend the information session on the evening of July 31 from 5:00-6:00 pm or the morning of August 2 from 7:30-8:30 am in the conference center on the second floor of the East Annex on the hospital’s campus in Presque Isle.
