The Norway Fire Department said crews arrived on the scene around 3:49 pm to find heavy fire conditions.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office responded to investigate the cause of the blaze.

Heaters and Electrical Tape Being Used to Thaw Out Frozen Pipes

“Fire Marshal Investigators determined that frozen pipes in the home were being thawed using a combination of heaters and electrical heat tape, which inadvertently caused the fire,” according to Shannon Moss, Public Information Officer, Maine Department of Public Safety.

Fire Ruled Accidental and Caused by Pipe Thawing Process

The fire was ruled accidental and originated from the pipe thawing process.

Homeowners Returned as Fire was Starting and No Injuries Reported

Officials said the residents had just returned home when the fire started. No one was injured.

Several Fire Units Responded to the Call and Assisted

Multiple fire departments were called to assist the Norway Fire Department.
