Presque Isle has named Laurie Kelly as the City’s new Chief of Police marking the first ever female chief for Presque Isle and Aroostook County.

Kelly, who formerly served in US Army Intelligence and Linguistics, has served on the City’s police department for over 30 years.  During that time, she has held the positions of Patrol Officer, Sergeant, Deputy Chief, and Interim Chief.  A graduate of the Maine Police Academy, Laurie has also completed both mandatory annual and specialized trainings including community policing, hostage negotiation, and police photography.

City Manager Martin Puckett said,

I am very pleased to appoint Laurie Kelly as the Presque Isle Police Chief.  Her demonstrated leadership abilities, community policing and collaboration with other law enforcement entities make her a great compliment to our team.

Chief Kelly was chosen from a pool of six applicants.  Kelly will assume her new duties immediately. Kelly.said:

I’m excited for the opportunity to serve as Chief of Police in the service and protection of the citizens of Presque Isle while working with all of our community law enforcement agencies on the State, County, Municipal and Federal levels.
