The Review reaches some 18,000 people, primarily acute care hospital CEOs, CFOs and CIOs.  In its recent published list of “50 Rural Hospital CEOs to Know”, they recognized some of the most impressive leaders dedicated to advancing healthcare in small towns and rural communities.  According to the Review, individuals in the list included Chief Executive Officers, and administrators located outside of a major metropolitan area or healthcare hubs.  This is the second edition of the published list.

The editorial team for Becker’s Hospital Review selected leaders through an editorial review process where a number of factors were considered, including awards received, local, regional and national leadership, positions held; and their organizations recent performance.  Nominations were also considered.

Kris Doody has been Chief Executive Officer at Cary Medical Center since 1999.  She has served in multiple, leadership roles including Chair of the Maine Community College Board of Trustees, Chair of the Maine Hospital Association Board of Directors, and Chair of the Aroostook Partnership for Progress.  Doody, who is a is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE), serves as a member of the American Hospital Association National Board of Directors.

Doody has also received multiple awards including many national awards.  Some of the awards include:   the Quorum or Excellence Award, BPW ‘Woman of the Year’ for the State of Maine, Alumnus of the Year by the University of Maine at Presque Isle, Husson College Alumni Hall of Fame, and  the ‘Legion of Honor’, Bronze Medallion, the Chapel of Four Chaplains from the Vietnam Veterans of America.  This is the highest civilian award presented to an individual by the Vietnam Veterans of America.

A key highlight of her recent work as Cary CEO has been her advocacy for Veterans Healthcare.  She has testified before both the US House and Senate in support of Project ARCH (Access Received Closer to Home).  Thanks in part to her efforts and Maine’s Congressional delegation, the project has been extended for two years.  Cary Medical Center is one of 5 locations in the nation where Project ARCH has been available to eligible Veterans.

Doody’s leadership has helped make Cary Medical Center one of the leading rural hospitals in the nation.  The hospital has received a number of National Awards for Clinical Quality, Patient Safety and Overall Patient Experience.
