The Chief of the Maine Capitol Police was charged with assault, disorderly conduct, and refusing to submit to arrest after an altercation at the Quarry Tap Room in Hallowell on Friday night.

Asked to Leave after Taking Pictures of People in Bar

Officials said Matthew Clancy was taking pictures of people in the restaurant and bar. When patrons complained to the staff, Clancy was asked to leave and escorted outside.

Charged with Assaulting Police

Clancy then got into an altercation with Hallowell Police. Clancy was charged with refusing to submit to arrest and assaulting police, said WGME News.

Administrative Leave

He was not taken to the Kennebec County Jail, but posted a $500 bail. Clancy was also placed on administrative leave. The investigation is ongoing.
