Lyft Driver Charged with Sexually Assaulting Woman in Maine

A 26-year-old male Lyft driver who was recently released by ICE was arrested and charged with Gross Sexual Assault in Lewiston.

Suspect Led Woman to his Lyft Vehicle

The Lewiston Police Department said Aguid Mahamat approached an intoxicated woman at 7-11 on Main Street and placed her in the back of his SUV.

Woman Sexually Assaulted in Back of Vehicle

Mahamat then drove her to another parking lot and sexually assaulted her.

Suspect Returned to 7-11 with Victim

He then returned the woman to the same 7-11 an hour later.

Man Approached Woman at 7-11

The woman told officers she had been drinking at the ACME Club on Park Street. She threw up at the 7-11 and Mahamat approached her and wiped her mouth with a napkin before taking her to his SUV, according to the Lewiston Sun Journal.

Woman Taken to Hospital and Spoke to Police

She was taken to St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Lewiston where she was given medical attention and spoke to police.

Flock Cameras and Security Footage Used to Locate Man

Investigators used 7-11 security footage and Flock cameras to track down Mahamat.

Suspect Told Police he Did Not Speak English

He was called by police and he went to the station to be interviewed. He told officers he only spoke “Chadian Arabaic.”

Taken to County Jail and Booked

He was held at the Androscoggin County Jail with bail was set at $3,000.
