The Presque Isle Elks extend an invitation to anyone in the area who would otherwise be alone on Christmas Day to join the Elks family at noon on Christmas Day, Sunday, December 25, at the Presque Isle Elks Lodge at 508 Main Street in Presque Isle for a traditional, sit-down Christmas dinner.

In extending this invitation, Exalted Ruler Marion Donahue is continuing a tradition begun on December 25, 2005, by Mary Dickinson, as the Exalted Ruler for the Presque Isle Elks Lodge for the year 2005-2006.  Together, with her husband, Dana Dickinson, Mary served as co-chair for the very first Elks Family Christmas Dinner on Christmas Day in 2005.

It was the vision of the Dickinsons that no one should be celebrating Christmas Day alone in Presque Isle.  This vision generated what has now become a tradition at the Presque Isle Elks, Lodge in Presque Isle.  This event has not only become a tradition, but has grown with every year.

Preparations began weeks ago to host over two hundred people from this area, who are expected to attend the Elks Family Christmas Dinner this year at no charge.  Desserts and breads have been solicited from individual Elk members. Turkeys and hams are being prepared to go in the ovens the day before Christmas. Well over a hundred man hours have already been expended before even the first turkey is cooked for this Christmas dinner.

Entertainment and hors d’oeuvres will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Christmas Day.  Live musical entertainment will feature the “Soggybottom Boyz”, comprised of Wendell Hudson, Leland Clark, James “Sheldon” Wright, and other friends. For the first year since the beginning of the Elks Family Christmas Dinner, Peter Parker, a perennial member of the “Soggybottom Boyz” will not be playing in the band on Christmas Day.  Peter died on April 10th of this year.

At noon on Christmas Day, the Elks will begin serving a five-course, sit-down, traditional Christmas dinner to people who would otherwise be alone at Christmas. Dinner will start with a fresh garden salad and the Governor’s famous dinner rolls, followed by tomato bisque soup from the Northeastland Hotel.  The main entrée will consist of roasted turkey or country-baked ham with County-grown, mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, squash and a vegetable medley.  For dessert, the Elks will again be serving a wide variety of pies, including the Governor’s cream pies.   All will be offered by the Presque Isle Elks without charge to anyone attending.

The Presque Isle Elks are anticipating the attendance of a special guest, provided he can finish his duties from the night before.  Guests will be provided with parting gifts.

To anyone who would otherwise be alone on Christmas Day, you're encouraged to attend this Presque Isle Elks Family Christmas Dinner. If transportation is needed, please call the Elks Lodge at 764-0985 before Christmas Day, if possible, in order to arrange for that transportation.
