A five-year-old from Belfast died Monday night after being shot in her grandparent’s Scarborough home.

Elise Dorr was taken to Maine Medical Center and died shortly after arrival, said Stephen McCausland, Public Safety Spokesman. Police were called to the Milliken Street residence around 7:30 p.m. Monday night.

The grandparents were away at the time of the shooting. The girl, two older siblings and her parents, Todd and Virginia Dorr of Belfast, were staying at the house, said McCausland. The parents were home at the time of the shooting. they have both been interviewed.

The investigation continues as Scarborough Police & detectives from the Maine State Police gather evidence and conduct interviews. They are working to determine the circumstances of the shooting. The gun has been recovered, said McCausland. An autopsy has been scheduled.
