
One Man Shot in the Chest and Injured after Altercation in Maine
A 75-year-old man was arrested Friday around 12:30 am after a man was shot in the chest following an altercation at a residence on Forest Avenue in Fort Fairfield.
Shot in the Chest
Fort Fairfield Police Chief Matthew E. Cummings said officers “located one male victim who had sustained a gunshot wound to the left side of his chest.”
Injured Man Taken to Hospital
Police rendered first aid until Fort Fairfield Fire and Rescue was on the scene. The shooting victim was taken to A.R. Gould Hospital in Presque Isle with non-life threatening injuries. Name and age were not released.
Suspect Arrested
Maurice House from Fort Fairfield was identified as the shooter and was taken into custody, said Chief Cummings.
Verbal Altercation before Shooting
“Officers determined that a verbal altercation had taken place between the two male household members prior to the victim being shot in the chest with a .22 caliber revolver,” said Cummings.
Jail and Charges
House was taken to the Aroostook County Jail and charged with Aggravated Assault, Reckless Conduct with a deadly weapon and Criminal Threatening with a deadly weapon. Cash Bail was set at $10,000.
More Charges Possible
Additional charges may be pending. The investigation is ongoing.

Officer Isaac Wipperman was the lead investigator, assisted on scene by Chief Matthew Cummings. Fort Fairfield Police was assisted by the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office, the U.S. Border Patrol and Fort Fairfield Fire Rescue.
