A 38-year-old man died Saturday night after a rollover crash following a hit and run with another vehicle in Fairfield.

Hit and Run Driver Ejected from Car after Rollover Crash

The Fairfield Police Department said Ryan Sargent from Sterling, Massachusetts was ejected from his car after “failing to negotiate a corner before leaving the roadway.”

Police said Speed and Alcohol are Believed to be Factors

Police said it is “believed that speed and alcohol were factors in the crash” on Western Avenue around 10:17 pm.

Driver Side-Swiped Vehicle and Drove Away in Wrong Lane

Sargent collided with a vehicle before the rollover crash. The driver told officers that a car had veered into her lane and side-swiped her vehicle. The car did not stop and continued in the wrong lane.

Rollover Crash after Hit and Run

As police were investigating the hit and run, officers got a report of a rollover crash on Center Road, about two miles away.

Car Involved in Hit and Run in Fatal Crash

Fairfield Police said “Officer Kibbie arrived on scene immediately and identified the vehicle involved in that crash as being the suspect vehicle from the earlier hit-and-run crash.”

Man Died at the Scene

Sargent was unresponsive after the crash and died at the scene. He was the only one in the vehicle. No other injuries were reported in the hit and run or the rollover crash.
