Wintergreen to Showcase Student Photography
Wintergreen Arts Center will feature a Summer Arts Student Photography Showcase during the month of August.
The Opening Reception will be held August 3, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, during Presque Isle’s First Friday Downtown Art Walk.
“My students are very excited to display their photography,” said Shaye McHatten, Wintergreen’s Summer Arts Program instructor. “Each student brings their own personality to class, uniquely and enthusiastically embracing photography as a medium for creative expression and achievement. I think people will be very impressed with their work.”
This summer marks McHatten’s second year teaching photography at Wintergreen.
In 2017, Wintergreen students made due with sharing an eclectic collection of borrowed cameras and equipment. This year, thanks to a gift from the Presque Isle Regional Career and Technical Center (PIRCTC), each student has access to a camera for their own use.
Last spring, McHatten, a junior in college and Presque Isle High School (PIHS) alumna, approached Mr. Tim Prescott, PIRCTC administrator, and Mrs. Amy White, PIRCTC instructor, asking about cameras used in her former classes at PIRCTC. The cameras had outlived a grant program and were generously donated to Wintergreen.
“We are grateful to Mr. Prescott and Mrs. White for allowing Wintergreen to make good use of these cameras,” said McHatten. “It allows all of our students to have similar equipment for the entire class, and has really boosted our creative output as a class.”
The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
